Thesis - By doing good, we do well. So we've made some changes that, for a brand experience and strategic marketing consultancy are somewhat radical. As we head into 2017, we’re thrilled with our position and ready for a big year.
We don't think we're going to change the world here, but we are changing individual lives by empowering a harmony between life at work and life at home. We're also able to provide the life to our employees, and their families, that is meaningful and comfortable.
Won't we lose to Mad Men-esque companies?
They are on the way out. As information about culture and employee and client experience is becoming more available, those who work their employees to the bone, who pay them minimum possible wages, who stick them in cubicles like cattle - those companies are losing the talent wars for young to middle-age, self-aware talent who understand life is about living. They understand meaningful work that leverages their skills is an important, but not nearly the only foundation of a satisfying life worth living.
Employee Benefits surveys also are showing that beer constantly on tap, free skittles and chips, a ping-pong table in the corner are not as popular as they once were, only a short time ago. Instead of skittles, what are we doing? We’re matching Employee retirement savings now, and hope to increase our percentage each year. We are diligently working toward 100% healthcare coverage, not only for our own team, but their teams at home. We don’t have a BS “work from home” policy, I’ve read the saying, “work is something you do, not somewhere you go.” In our company, that couldn’t be more true.
Location, Location, Location. Six weeks ago we moved to Main Street on Manayunk. The team loves the eating and shopping options. Sometimes I look around and no one is here because they are enjoying a quick walk together, the team builds camaraderie and our leadership isn’t doing anything to force that. It’s proven to be a great move, we feel part of a community that values each other.
Our work isn't sexy. We're not a non-profit. We’re not the youngest, hippest, tech startup. But we are a company that cares about our team.
Work/Life Satisfaction, not Balance. This is about work being satisfying, about people wanting to come into work, not dreading it like many of my friends do. It’s about life being satisfying, about making it possible for our family to come in refreshed, energized and enthusiastic. Instead of expecting 80 hour work weeks, we expect 40 hour work weeks with responsible self-care and pursuit of life satisfaction. We push hard for self-education, none of us have all the answers, so let’s keep learning. We trust our family to be responsible with sleep, exercise, and wellness, and when we are here, we want to be here.
Our work isn't sexy. We're not a non-profit. We’re not the youngest, hippest, tech startup. But we are a company that cares about our team, because we believe that family are the people you spend the most time with, and those who share your future, not just those who share your ancestry.
